Newton is constantly ranked as one of the best places in the Unites States to live. Some of the reasons include public safety, excellence in education, cleanliness, our beautiful libraries (some of which are now run by volunteer residents), the arts, proximity to Boston, and much more. There is, however, a secret ingredient to our success.
The secret ingredient: Our 13 villages. Auburndale, Chestnut Hill, Lower Falls, Newton Highlands, Newton Centre, Newton Corner, Newtonville, Newton Upper Falls, Nonantum (“The Lake”), Oak Hill, Thompsonville, Waban, and West Newton.
When someone from Newton asks someone from Newton where they’re from, the answer is never “Newton”. It’s all about the villages.
The Comprehensive Plan” lays out a number of worthwhile goals and objectives and can be used as a guide for cohesive future vision. However we must not allow public officials to paint all villages with the same brush. We all know there are major differences between The Lake and Waban, Chestnut Hill and Upper Falls, Oak Hill and Auburndale. It’s the diversity of our villages and our people that add to the strength and character of the city.
Your support for Alderman Shapiro’s re-election means stronger consideration of the needs of each individual village and full support for policies which consistently take those differences into consideration.
