Help for Seniors
The needs of our senior population has changed dramatically since my grandparents first came to Newton in the 1950′s. Now, with financial pressures and the economy unstable, we have an even greater responsibility to do everything possible to assist an aging population here in Newton.

Programs such as “Newton at Home” can be of great assistance helping seniors “age in place”, and it was a pleasure to be in attendance to lend my support at the official launch of this worthy non-profit organization.
I also continue to support tax reduction and deferment programs, along with a wide range of services and program tailored to the needs of an aging population.
During my monthly offices hours at the Newton Senior Center, I continue to hear directly from seniors. Their concerns are real and as an Alderman and a fellow resident, I listen carefully, respond with compassion, and work hard to resolves issues.
Safety is always a top priority and I established the Newton Silver Alert program to keep those with Alzheimer’s or other dementia…safer. Now, if a loved one wanders, first responders have additional tools to find the person faster and bring them home safely.
The Governor is using our Newton model as the template for rolling out the program across the Commonwealth. I was asked to join the committee and am I’m proudly playing a role in expanding such an important safety program.
Your support for Alderman Shapiro’s re-election means you’re committed to honoring our seniors by providing critical programs and services to help make it easier to age safely, gracefully, and with dignity right here in Newton.
Honoring Our Veterans

Newton is proud to be the home of so many distinguished veterans. While I personally am not a veteran, members of my family have served, and I have the deepest respect for all those who have served in uniform to protect our freedom.
As an Alderman, I continue to make it a top priority to be present at service-oriented events and remembrances, and I to be fully supportive of the City of Newton’s Veterans Assistance Officer and the full funding for Veterans programs and services throughout the year.
If you’ve served our country, I thank you.
Your support for Alderman Shapiro’s re-election is appreciated and your service (and your family’s support) to our country is valued to the greatest degree.
